extravagant love

The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you. Jeremiah 31:3

At church today Joel spoke on Gods extravagant love. HERE is the link to the sermon. I would highly recommend it if you have ever questioned Gods love for you or if you have never known his love. It really resonated with me and made me think of a experience I had last spring that was a life changer for me. I am by nature a private person it is not easy for me to share my heart. My opinions on surface things? Now that's a whole 'nother story, but to share my true heart is where it gets difficult. I do think sometimes the Lord gives experiences that are between you and him and that's ok but after hearing this message today I want to share my experience with getting a fresh revelation of Gods passionate love
 I am a daydreamer, a thinker, a "creative". The Lord speaks to me with the beauty and majesty of nature. Last spring I was having a rough day.I can barely remember what I was going through at the time so I'm sure it was something trivial, just life getting stressful. But I remember feeling exhausted and emotional. I sank down on my couch with the weight of the world on my shoulders, kids climbing all around me, and yelling in my ears. From my spot on the couch I could see perfectly framed in the window on my back door a plum tree that's growing in my back yard. It was ablaze in bright pink blossoms. The spring sunshine was shining in between each flower making it even more beautiful than usual. The blossoms filled up the whole window so that was all I could see when I glanced out. At that moment I knew the Lord loved me enough to create that beauty while thinking of me. I knew that when he created the first of those flowering trees he was excitedly putting those blossoms deep inside the branches to pop out and surprise us at springtime. Imagine that, the King of the world, the Creator, thinking of those small details just for us! He knew when he created me that I would love beauty and nature, that I would not be able to resist taking photograph after photograph of apple blossoms, that I almost drive off the road at times because I just passed an orchard in full bloom and couldn't resist a longer look. Not only thinking of me but truly knowing me and loving me enough to give me such a gift. Now I am not silly enough to think that all the spring blossoming trees are meant only for me;) but if he can love me like that (and countless others who share the same interests as me) how much does he love you? You. Where you are and with whatever you've done he loves you. Unconditionally, extravagantly, through no merit of your own, he passionately loves you.

  1. I am a hymn lover. This song is one of my favorites and speaks so much more beautifully than I on the love of God.

  2. The Love of God by Frederick M. Lehman

  3. The love of God is greater far
    Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
    It goes beyond the highest star,
    And reaches to the lowest hell;
    The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
    God gave His Son to win;
    His erring child He reconciled,
    And pardoned from his sin.
    • Refrain:
      Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
      How measureless and strong!
      It shall forevermore endure—
      The saints’ and angels’ song.
  4. When hoary time shall pass away,
    And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
    When men who here refuse to pray,
    On rocks and hills and mountains call,
    God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
    All measureless and strong;
    Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
    The saints’ and angels’ song.
  5. Could we with ink the ocean fill,
    And were the skies of parchment made,
    Were every stalk on earth a quill,
    And every man a scribe by trade;
    To write the love of God above
    Would drain the ocean dry;
    Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
    Though stretched from sky to sky
